16 Weeks

How Far Along: 16 Weeks
Size of baby:  Avocado
Maternity Clothes: Not yet :(
Gender: Don't know - but we find out May 16th!
Movement: None
Sleep: I have a hard time falling asleep because I am used to either sleeping on my back or stomach. So, I am trying to train myself to sleep on my side because that is what is better for the baby when I get further along. I am looking into getting a maternity pillow so that might help. Also, I am still getting up like clock work to go the bathroom in the middle of the night. Not fun.
What I miss: nothing really
Cravings: Water, fruit and carbs!
Aversions: I guess I don't have any "Aversions". I said on my last update that I have aversions towards veggies and meat. I guess that is not really true. I eat them. Its just that those aren't my "go to" foods. I eat them because I know they are good for my baby but they just don't appeal to me as much as they used to :)
Symptoms: Frequent bathroom breaks, still a little fatigued, and I'm not breaking out as bad ... but still a little.
Best Moment this week: Finding out from my pregnancy app (on my phone) that my baby can hear me now! Apparently, studies have found that babies who are sung to while they're in the womb recognize the same tune when it is sung to them after they are born. I think that is so crazy!

What bump?

When you are pregnant, you are told that you aren't supposed to gain too much weight in the first trimester but once you hit the second trimester you should start looking more and more pregnant each week. Where is my defining bump? I am really stressing over this right now. Today I am at 15 weeks and I still do not really have a bump yet. It just seems crazy to me that they can determine the sex in four weeks! I mean, where is the little guy/girl hiding? I know he/she will probably be growing a lot in the next few weeks but its stressful for me right now. I think its harder in the second trimester because there are not as many symptoms (which you think would be a good thing) but the symptoms made me feel comforted that everything was okay.

My mom said that she did not start showing until more like 20 weeks, so maybe I am the same way. She also said I will look back at this post when I am 9 months pregnant and laugh because I will be so ready to have the baby. I cant wait for that time!

The only reassuring thing I have noticed is that if I am laying down and I try to suck in my stomach ... there is a hard small hump (that wont go down) in my lower abdomen. I LOVE that small hump! :)

Here is my 15 week picture (but I am only going to do the whole survey thing every two weeks because I don't want it to be overkill):

Baby Bargains

I have heard from a couple different friends that the book "Baby Bargains" is a great investment. It gives tons of tips for purchasing all types of baby items (because trust me, there are a LOT of options). It tells you what is worth spending more money on and what is not.

Last week, I was purchasing other items on Amazon.com and was trying to think of something small to add to my cart to hit the $25 mark to receive free shipping on my purchase. This is probably how they get you because I know I'm spending more money than I would have. Anyway, when I realized that I could get Baby Bargains for $4 (used) I was stoked.

At this point, I think I am so savvy for getting such a great deal. I go out to dinner with a couple of my friends, show them my new purchase, and am telling them how great a deal I got. Then one of my friends is like, "This looks different than my book. This is the 5th edition? I think when I was pregnant I must have gotten the 4th or something." We kind of dropped the subject because neither of us knew better. However, as I got home I started thinking - what is the newest edition? Well, as it happens the newest edition is the 9th. Apparently I got such a great deal because this book was published in 2003! As most people know baby stuff gets updated ALL the time. I quickly realized I am not savvy. I was going to have to buy the newer edition and just eat the $4. So in case you are as clueless as I am, these books get updated every two years. You can distinguish the different editions by the color and style of the cover... but here is the newest edition:

I guess live and learn :)

14 Weeks

How Far Along: 14 weeks - I cant believe I am into the second trimester!
Size of baby:  Lemon
Maternity Clothes: Not yet but I have been leaning towards looser clothes ... just because they are more comfortable
Gender: Not sure yet - we find out May 16th
Movement: None
Sleep: I never used to have to get up and go the bathroom in the middle of the night but now its like clockwork. Every night around 2am I have to get up. Sometimes I am able to go right back to sleep ... sometimes not.
What I miss: drinking soda without guilt! My doctor said its okay to drink a little bit of caffeine a day but just limit my intake and try to stay away from artifical sweeteners. I probably have one soda a week now (which I used to have one a day) so I feel I have made progress.
Cravings: Water and Fruit!
Aversions: Vegetables & Meat
Symptoms: Always having to pee, still a little fatigued, and breaking out like a teenager (fun stuff).
Best Moment this week: Telling our extended family that we are expecting. We did it on Easter weekend and everyone was very excited. Also, making it "facebook official" ... that was actually kind of scary though - it felt like I was sending out a press release!
